Full time position
The Patient Financial Counselor will obtain pre-authorization for required services for patients. The Patient Financial Counselor will provide written estimates to patients when requested. The Patient Financial Counselor will assist patients in applying for any applicable assitance programs and will set up payment arrangements with the patients if needed.
Meets with all self-pay patients or responsible party within 24 hours of admission or next working day, whichever comes first. Give assistance in completing Medicaid, Social Security or County assistance applications.
Follow-up communication (written and verbal) with patients and/or families, assistance agencies, attorneys, insurance companies, etc.
Listens compassionately and actively to questions and concerns of the patients and/or family and friends. Able to interrelate and communicate with physicians, medical staff, attorneys, and other professionals.
Provides responses to patient and/or family members with concerns to insurance coverage and payment of deductibles and co-insurance.
Assists patient and/or family in establishing a payment plan compliant with the hospital credit policy.
Assist admission clerks and/or the Switchboard operator in answering patient questions or covering their areas.
Other duties as assigned.
Computer and customer services experience required.
Previous experience as a credit counselor or in a hospital /clinic business off required.
